Lisa Cornish: Founder of Growing Soils

Who we are

At Growing Soils, we believe that a healthy Soil Food Web is essential for enhancing soil fertility, reducing pests and diseases, and ultimately increasing yields. Our mission prioritises the protection of our precious ecosystem, both above and below ground, cultivating a sustainable approach to how we grow our food.

Founded by Lisa Cornish, a passionate home grower and allotmenteer, Growing Soils emerged from her personal experiences in gardening. After enjoying a couple of fruitful years with her allotment, Lisa faced frustratingly disappointing yields. This setback sparked her curiosity, leading her on a journey to understand the underlying issues affecting soil health.

To solidify her knowledge, Lisa trained with the Royal Horticultural Society and earned her Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture. This education provided her with a robust understanding of plant growth and the vital importance of caring for our soil.

Disheartened by the poor quality of local authority garden waste compost, Lisa dug deeper into the fascinating world of soil biology. Inspired by Dr Elaine Ingham's pioneering research on the Soil Food Web, she enrolled in the school's Consultant Training Programme. This approach empowers growers to improve and protect the vital soil life beneath our feet.

At Growing Soils, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and fostering practices that strengthen the Soil Food Web, paving the way for healthier crops and a more resilient ecosystem for future generations.
